Visit Memphise, the oldest capital of Egypt, that was built by King Menes, and lies on a desert plateau 24 kms south-west of Cairo . Visit Saqqara, the section of the great Necropolis (cemetery) of Memphis used as a burial ground for thousands of years, the site’s best known feature for the Step Pyramid, the world’s oldest t known world structure, built in the 3rd Dynasty (around 2630 BC).
After lunch we will continue to the Ben Ezra Synagogue and the Hanging Church. It was called so because it was built over remains of Roman fortress.This church played an important role in the history of the Coptic Church, it became the seat of the patriarchies after transferring it from Alexandria to Alfustat. This church is famous by the existence of 7 altars. These altars have icons which are inlaid with ebony and cedar wood dates back to the 10th and 13th century.
